Drill of the Month - MarchRebound ControlOther than Lateral movement, Rebound is one of the most important parts of goaltending. Your goal as a goalie is to beat the rebound to its intended destination or not give up a rebound at all. For a proper recovery you need to know what your power leg is. Your power leg is the leg furthest from the puck. By getting up on this leg you are able to push as you are recovering on your other leg. If you get up on the wrong leg you have to wait to recover to your power leg inorder to push properly. For this drill you will need one but preferably two shooters. The first shooter is located in the high slot. The second shooter is located at the tops of the circles on the chosen side. If you have only one shooter it would be at the tops of the circles. The drill begins with the goalie on the post. He/she will push to the centre. Once the goalie is set the shooter will shoot low to the side of the net where the 2nd shooter is located. The goalie will have to recover to his/her feet and move laterally and get set for the shot from the 2nd shooter. Coaches, remember, the second shot is at the speed the goalie would see in a game at the level he/she is playing. Also at first let the goalie get set, it is better to do the drill slower at first so the goalie can get the technique down, and then speed it up. To make this drill more difficult simply move the first shot laterally further from the 2nd shooter. (click on image to enlarge) Selected photos courtesy of OHLPhotos.com
